Trial of Ex-President Chirac postponed
The Paris criminal court has upheld a defense objection and suspended the trial of former President Jacques Chirac and nine co-defendants of embezzlement and abuse of office until further notice. The judges hold the objection that the usual interpretation of the statute of limitations should be considered before the Court of Cassation on its constitutionality, for sufficiently serious and well founded, to the process that began on Monday with several procedural issues, again to cancel. Auch der Sozialist Arnaud Montebourg meinte gnädig über den einstigen politischen Gegner: "Es macht keinen Sinn mehr, ihn jetzt noch vor Gericht zu stellen. Er hat seinen Ruhestand verdient."
